Signs That Your Aquarium Cycle is Complete:
-
Ammonia = 0 ppm (parts per million):
No toxic ammonia should be present. This is the first sign that the beneficial bacteria are breaking it down properly. -
Nitrite = 0 ppm:
Nitrite levels should also be zero, indicating that the second group of bacteria is converting nitrites into nitrates. -
Nitrates Start to Rise (20–40 ppm):
Nitrates are the final product of the nitrogen cycle. While not as harmful as ammonia or nitrites, high nitrate levels still need to be managed through water changes. A level of around 20–40 ppm is manageable, but aim to keep it under 40 ppm for jellyfish health.
