Getting Started

Clean, pure saltwater is the most important component needed for maintaining healthy jellyfish. When mixing salt water DO NOT USE TAP WATER, natural ocean water or water with added vitamins / minerals. This will immediately void any Arrive Alive Claims!

Jellyfish do well in salinity between 30 – 33 ppt / 1.023 – 1.025 SG and a temperature of 60-78F with ideal temperatures between 65-74F.

 What is salinity?

• Salinity is a measure of the amount of dissolved salts (ions) in the water. Salinity is a very important water parameter to monitor. The traditional way to express salinity is in parts per thousand (ppt) or specific gravity (SG). The Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) we breed in our aquaculture facility thrive at a salinity of 30 ppt (parts per thousand). Normal seawater is about 35 ppt, while freshwater is near 0 ppt.

 How do I measure salinity?

• There are many tools you can use to measure salinity, such as a hydrometer, refractometer, or digital refractometer. A hydrometer is included with your Jellyfish Art aquarium kit. It measures salinity in both parts per thousand (ppt) and Specific Gravity (SG).

• IMPORTANT: Always tap off any internal bubbles after filling your hydrometer with salt water. Bubbles on the reading arm can give an inaccurate salinity reading. It is a good idea to periodically test your hydrometer with fresh water. It should read 0. It is also best to rinse with fresh water before and after use to remove any salt buildup. Line up the reading arm with the numbers on the outside of the hydrometer - this is your salinity. What type of fresh water do I use to make the salt water?

• Use Reverse-Osmosis (RO) or Distilled water without added vitamins or minerals.

Where can I purchase my Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water?

- Grocery stores

- Superstores such as Wal-Mart and Pharmacies

If you are unsure about your source of water, contact us! We are happy to help.

• Read the label! Most labels will tell you how the water is filtered. Why is salinity important?

• Because jellyfish are made up of 95% water, saltwater in their environment should stay constant. Water is constantly moving through the thin cell membranes of jellyfish because of a process called osmosis. Therefore, it is important to stay within the salinity range to avoid shock.

• Exposure to any type of extreme change in salinity rapidly will shock your jellyfish and potentially cause harm. To avoid shock during water changes, the new saltwater should be the same salinity as the current aquarium water. How do I mix my saltwater correctly?

• Use a clean, “aquarium-use” only 1-gallon water jug or 5-gallon bucket as your mixing container to avoid introducing contaminants into your water.

• Fill the container with the proper amount of Reverse Osmosis (RO)/ Distilled water.

 • Begin stirring the water before adding salt then slowly add the salt while continuing to stir. (Salt can get hot do not touch)

• Allow time for the new saltwater to come to room temperature so as to match the temperature of the tank water. It is best to let this sit overnight in the same room as the aquarium and mixed periodically.

• Measure the salinity of the water with your hydrometer and adjust if it is out of range. Be sure to flick or tap the hydrometer to remove any bubbles from the reader arm as bubbles can give an inaccurate reading. If you are having constant problems with salinity, consider investing in a refractometer a digital salinity checker which are instruments used to measure salinity and tends to be more accurate than a hydrometer.

• It is never a bad idea to have extra mixed saltwater on hand. Once mixed, it can be stored as long as needed in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid.

Acclimation for the Jellyfish Art Aquarium:

What is Acclimation?

After arriving at your doorstep, jellyfish must be gradually introduced to their new home since water conditions in shipping bag (such as salinity, temperature and pH) may be different from those inside of your aquarium.

Rushing the acclimation process will shock your jellyfish and potentially cause harm.

Acclimation process:

• PRO TIP: On arrival, it is best to open your box and remove the bag containing the jellyfish. Place this bag next to the aquarium and allow it to sit for 1-2 hours. This will allow the water in the bag to very slowly adjust to room temperature before proceeding! After this time has passed then you may continue with the following acclimation steps.

• Rinse your hands thoroughly with fresh water each time you come into contact with your aquarium. DO NOT use soap. Any chemical that maybe on your hands can be easily transferred into your aquarium. Hand sanitizers, soaps, and lotions can be detrimental to your jellyfish even in very small amounts.

• Designate a cup or container to be used solely for aquarium maintenance. This means that every single time that you remove water or remove the jellyfish; it should be done with this container. A cup or container that is not designated as “aquarium-use” only could be contaminated in such a way that it could harm jellyfish, such as soap residue from washing.

• After receiving your package of Moon jellyfish, open it and verify the contents of the package. Note the condition of the ice packs and the package appearance over-all.

• We ask that you take and save a picture of your jellyfish SEALED in the bag in which they arrived. Picture quality does help us in the event that you may need to use our jellyfish 10-day Arrive Alive Guarantee. See PAGE 18 of our instruction manual for further information on our Arrive Alive Claim process.

Even if your jellyfish appear in rough shape or lifeless, proceed with acclimation as instructed. Jellyfish have an amazing ability to recover and regenerate in the correct conditions.

• If it appears that your ice packs have ruptured during transit, please rinse the outside of the bags thoroughly with fresh water before proceeding.

• It is important to think ahead for any potential spills that may happen. It is a good idea to have a hand towel or paper towels nearby. A large, clean bowl can be used to work over in the steps of getting the jellyfish out of the shipping bag to avoid any kind of spillage.

1. Jellyfish arrive in an insulated shipping container. Ensure that the caretaker is available to receive the jellyfish shipment. Tracking information for shipments are sent via email to the purchaser. Acclimate jellyfish as soon as possible within 6 hours. Take a picture of the jellyfish within the bag upon arrival. Remove jellyfish bags from the insulated packaging. Allow the jellyfish bag to adjust to the room temperature in which the aquarium is housed before proceeding with acclimation. Do not tear the outermost plastic bag; this was included in your shipment to be used as the acclimation bag.

2. Place the smaller bags with the jellyfish inside into the larger acclimation bag. With caution, create a hole at the top of the bags large enough for the jellies to be removed safely. Once the bag has a hole of a sufficient size, lightly turn the smaller bags upside-down to release the jellyfish into the larger acclimation bag. Once the jellyfish are inside of the larger acclimation bag, the acclimation process can begin.

3. Discard approximately half of the water the jellyfish had been shipped in. Be careful not to pour out any jellyfish! Ensure that you have added a dose of JellyBio Starter to your aquarium and that it has been running with saltwater for at least 4-6 weeks before acclimating your jellyfish. Use the feeding pipette to remove and visible air bubbles that may be stuck to the walls of the tank. Use your hydrometer to verify your salinity is within ranges.

4. It is Important to remove enough water from your Jelly Cylinder 5 so that it does not overflow when placing the acclimation bag full of jellyfish at the top of the aquarium. Roll down the edges of the acclimation bag to help keep it oriented. At this point you can float the jellyfish bag within the tank. DO NOT release the jellyfish immediately. Jellyfish must slowly acclimate to their new aquarium’s water conditions.

5. Add 1/4 of a cup of system water into the acclimation bag. Be careful that air bubbles don’t get trapped within or underneath jellyfish when pouring. Air bubbles that get stuck under a jellyfish can result in a hole developing in their tissue. Pouring water down the side of the acclimation bag close to the water level will help reduce bubbles that could be introduced during the acclimation process.

6. Repeat this process of adding a small amount of system water into the acclimation bag every 10 minutes for at least one hour if not longer. This will allow the jellyfish to slowly adjust to their new aquarium’s water chemistry. Rushing the acclimation process will shock your jellyfish and potentially cause harm.

7. Submerge the acclimation bag in the aquarium and allow jellyfish to swim out. Any water removed during step 4 can be added back into the aquarium so that the water level is in-between the minimum and maximum marking on the vertical slit towards the top of the aquarium.

8. The jellyfish may swim and pulse slowly or not at all for the first 24-72 hours while acclimating to their new home. They may also float or sink depending on any potential salinity differences. This is normal. At this point, ensure that there is a steady stream of bubbles emitting from the airline tube in your aquarium.

9. The jellyfish can be fed 24 hours after acclimation. Please refer to the feeding section on PAGE 28 for more information. There should never be excessive amounts of food at the bottom of the aquarium. It is very important to not overfeed and keep the aquarium clean and free of uneaten food/debris to promote good water chemistry.

11. Be sure to follow the recommended continued maintenance guidelines in the instruction manual.

**During the first two weeks after acclimation of your jellyfish, we recommend that you feed your jellyfish lightly and utilize the Target/Spot Feeding method. We suggest checking the ammonia levels daily for 2 weeks to ensure that ammonia stays at 0ppm - 0.25ppm.

Jellyfish Art provides a high quality Dry Jellyfish Food specifically formulated for jellyfish made from plankton high in HUFAs (Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids), which are essential for proper nutrition. Our dry food is used in our state certified aquaculture facility and offer developing and growing jellies with the proper nutrition. We strongly suggest only feeding jellyfish with our recommended food and/ or in combination with our artemia hatcher. Other fish foods that claim to be suitable for jellyfish are often low quality. Follow the feeding guide to properly feed your jellyfish with special care not to overfeed which can cause water quality issues.

INSTRUCTIONS:

(Scoop included inside the food bag! Food should be kept in your refrigerator.)

For 3-4 jellyfish feed 1/4 scoop of dry Jelly Food in total once per day. Typical feeding amount will reach about 1/2  scoop once daily. (Make sure to monitor ammonia levels daily whenever there is an increase in food.)

During feeding you may mix the dry food in a small container with a small amount of aquarium water, this solution can be dispersed into the aquarium. Leftover food should be removed daily using your feeding pipette or our mini siphon to maintain good and clean water quality.

* To prevent spoiling the water, leftover food that collects on the aquarium floor should be removed daily using the feeding pipette.

Changing out the saltwater in your aquarium on a weekly basis will improve the quality of your aquarium’s water and in turn, promote the health of your jellyfish.

How are water changes done?

 • When performing maintenance on your jellyfish aquarium, we recommend removing the jellyfish and placing them in a clean, “aquarium-use” only cup or bowl. This is to avoid injury while cleaning and performing a water change.

• Remove some system water to avoid displacing water and spilling when you reach into your aquarium. Be sure to clean any algae off the walls on a regular basis. Utilize your cleaning brush for this task. The easiest way to remove water and waste from the bottom of your aquarium is to use a siphon hose to remove the particles while draining the saltwater to be replaced during a water change. Removing waste can also be done manually with the feeding pipette. If you do not have a siphon, cupping water out manually also works well. How often do you do water changes and how much water do you replace?

• Recommended amount of water to be changed weekly: 50%. Try not to change more than 50% water volume at one time as to maintain the equilibrium in the tank. Frequency and percentages can vary depending on quantity of food added to the aquarium, and stocking levels.

• Removing the jellyfish from the aquarium is best and you can use plastic solo cups to gently scoop them out.

• After removing the jellyfish wipe down the inside of the aquarium using you acrylic safe cleaning sponge. you can use a siphon or mini siphon to vacuum out debris that collect on the bottom.

• 50% of the tank water should be remove and discarded.

• Refile the aquarium with the new saltwater (always make sure the new saltwater is the same temperature as the aquarium.

• Wipe down any bubbles that may have stuck on the aquarium walls.

• Gently add the jellyfish back to the aquarium.

• You can use freshwater and paper towels to wipe down the exterior of the aquarium.

Jellyfish Art's food is specifically formulated for jellyfish. It is made from planktonic eggs high in HUFAs (Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids), which are essential for proper nutrition. We strongly recommend feeding your jellyfish with our food only. Other fish foods that claim to be suitable for jellyfish are often low quality.
For jellyfish keepers who are interested, you can also hatch your own live food using our brine shrimp hatcher. Feeding jellyfish too much results in poor water quality. Jellyfish should be fed daily, although it's okay to skip feeding for a weekend if they get extra food before and after. Please do not combine feedings into a single feeding. It is best to have two feedings per day, feeding ½ scoop of Jelly Food each feeding. You can re-suspend any uneaten food on the bottom of the tank using the pipette after each feeding.

Feeding Instructions:
Once your Jelly Food arrives, store in the refrigerator in between feedings. Daily Feed jellyfish twice a day; once in the morning and once in the evening. Add ½ level scoop of Jelly Food to the surface of the aquarium water and stir the water surface lightly. The food may remain on the surface and slowly sink over time feeding the jellyfish in a manner similar to what they would encounter in the open ocean. Increase or decrease food dosage accordingly depending on number of jellyfish. Use feeding pipette to re-suspend uneaten food into water column for jellyfish to eat. Jellyfish are significantly healthier in a clean tank.

Note: if your tank contains more than 3 jellyfish, take extra care with water quality. You may want to perform water changes more frequently. Jellyfish are living creatures that require a specific diet. Jellyfish Art has created a specially formulated jellyfish food to provide these animals with proper nutrition, while maintaining ease of use for the aquarist. Please note, using other fish foods could seriously harm jellyfish. Jellyfish Art Jellyfish Food is available at www.Jellyfishart.com

An air bubble is stuck inside jellyfish Usually the bubble will release as the jellyfish swims around. However, if an air bubble is lodged in a jellyfish you can manually get it out. Gently grasp the jellyfish and hold it upside down. Use the feeding pipette to lightly blow jets of water around the underside of the jellyfish to massage the air bubble out. The jellyfish are swimming slowly Sometimes jellyfish will swim slowly after feeding or during acclimation. Otherwise, slow swimming is the early warning sign of poor water quality. Do a water change and remove any excess debris found in substrate. Also, make sure temperature is 60 - 78 degrees Fahrenheit and salinity is 28 - 32 ppt.

If temperature is out of range, adjust it by changing the room temperature. If salinity is out of range, add fresh or salt water as necessary. Never add salt directly to a tank with jellyfish in it. The jellyfish are shrinking This is a sign of poor water quality. Feed the jellyfish the same daily food dosage, but split it in half into morning and evening feedings. Do a 50% water change. Also clean up any debris in the tank using an algae cleaner magnet, feeding pipette or vacuum hose. Make sure food sticks to the jellyfish during feeding. PRO TIP: Adding volume to your water changes will help to improve the health of the jellyfish. Adjust your 1 gallon water change each week to 1.5 gallons to reduce waste in the tank and keep your jellyfish extra healthy. It is very important that the substrate is completely free of food waste. Debris will accumulate if jellyfish are fed too much and can negatively effect water quality.

The water is cloudy This is caused by a bacteria bloom from too much food in the tank. Decrease the feeding dosage and make sure your tank is as clean as possible. Do a 25% water change to dilute the cloudiness. A jellyfish is getting stuck to the tank wall This means the jellyfish has taken on the shape of a suction cup. Gently use your hands or the feeding pipette to get the jellyfish loose from the wall so it starts swimming again. The jellyfish should grow out of its suction cup shape shortly, but you may have to free it from the wall several times over the course of a few days. A 25% water change will help your jellyfish recover. In order to not have the jellyfish get stuck again, clean the walls of the tank. (Even though it may not seem dirty, algae growth on the walls contributes to jellyfish "Suction cupping”.

A jellyfish keeps swimming down to the bottom Check water level of the tank and salinity. If the water level is not 1/4' above the top of the bubble channel plate, the jellyfish will constantly swim and eventually rest on the bottom of the tank. Also check your salinity. If the salinity within the tissue of the jellyfish is higher, it makes them denser so they sink to the bottom. Check your salinity and adjust it until it is between 28 - 32 ppt. It can take several hours for the jellyfish to correct themselves so they swim normally.

If you just added your jellyfish to the tank within the past several hours, give it at least 24 hours to acclimate. A jellyfish has a hole or tear in its bell This jellyfish is loosing tissue due to poor water quality or shipping damage. If you received your jellyfish and it is damaged, with normal feedings and care the jellyfish will recover within a week. If the jellyfish develops a hole or tear in the bell while in your tank conduct a 50% water change and remove any build up of debris in the tank. Also, feed jellyfish the same daily food dosage, but split it in half into morning and evening feedings. Feeding jellyfish less food but more frequently reduces waste and increases the amount of food jellyfish can consume.

There is foam on the water's surface This is normal and will disappear over time. Foam is created by charged organic molecules sticking to the water surface and creating bubbles. If the foam begins to build up you can scoop it out of the tank. A jellyfish retracted its oral arms This is a normal response after feeding. It helps the jellyfish bring food to its mouth. A jellyfish turned inside out This is due to poor water quality, often caused by a build-up of jellyfish waste or uneaten food if jellyfish are fed too much. Do a 50% water change as soon as possible. Also, vacuum any uneaten food and waste at the bottom of the tank using the feeding pipette or vacuum hose to prevent water quality from declining. You can also manually flip the jellyfish around.

Algae is growing inside the tank Algae does not harm jellyfish but can look unsightly. Use your hand, a paper towel or the algae cleaner magnet to wipe algae from the tank side. If the algae is growing out of control, keep it away from sunlight. PRO TIP: You can use an acrylic aquarium brush to remove algae from the inside of the bubble channel. The salinity is rising Salinity rises through evaporation. To prevent the tank from moving outside the desired salinity level, keep an eye on how much water is being lost.

You should always maintain a water level that is even with the middle of the top bubble channel opening. This may mean adding more fresh water during the week. The air pump stopped working Sometimes the air filter on the bottom of the pump gets clogged. You can take this out and clean it, replace it with fresh cotton, or leave it off the pump completely. The pump will function fine without it. If you have purchased a tank within one year, this pump is still under warranty. Please send us an email at info@jellyfishart.com to request a new pump.

The easiest way top hatch live baby brine shrimp is by using our Artemia Hatcher available on our website HERE.

The Artemia Hatcher is very easy to use, follow these steps to have some freshly hatched brine shrimp for your jellyfish.

    1. Fill with saltwater up to the “water level” mark. This is the ring that is located on the inside edge of the dish. Ensure that the water level is above the black walls, and below the top of the white rings.

    2. Set the white divider disk into the middle and insert the sieve into the center opening.

    3. Set the hatcher where ever you will leave it before adding the eggs. Essentially you do not want to move the hatcher after you have added eggs since that will cause the shells to mix and end up in the center where they should not be.

    4. Sprinkle 1-3 spoonful's evenly around the outer circle and close the lid. Keep the lid in the “closed” position to avoid unwanted light

At normal room temperature, the brine shrimp will hatch after 24-48 hours, warmer temperatures will yield a better brine shrimp hatch rate. The brine shrimp will be attracted to light in the middle of the dish towards the sieve (screen scoop) and are easily taken out.

    Feeding live baby brine shrimp:

    1. Use the sieve in the center of the hatcher to strain the live bring shrimp from the water.

(Never add the hatch water to the aquarium since this will be dirty and high in unwanted ammonia. You may rinse freshly hatched brine under some distilled, reverse osmosis or fresh salt water to ensure that your brine are clean when adding to the tank.)

    2. Since the amount of hatched shrimp in the sieve will vary day by day, we recommend using the smaller food scoop to pick up the bright orange strained shrimp. This will give you a visual and actual measurement of how much shrimp you are feeding. The goal  is to feed enough shrimp that the jellyfish can grab in about 15-20 minutes.

    3. The live brine shrimp will hatch for a period of about 4-5 days, after this you should rinse the whole dish with fresh tap water and then restart the process.

** TIP: Since live brine shrimp is lacking in Omega fatty acids and HUFAs we recommend feeding our dry Jelly food. The Jelly Food is much more nutritional complex and has the missing fatty acids. You can feed the dry Jelly food on the days where the hatcher is being re-started. This will give the jellyfish the missing nutritional value for optimal health.

The ideal temperature range for moon jellyfish is 66 – 72°F. Their full temperature range can be 64 and 74°F.

Most important to note regarding temperature is to avoid temperature fluctuation either sudden changes or fluctuations throughout the day, stable temperature is key!

If the temperature of the water is fluctuating up and down you can use one of our aquarium heaters to keep it stable. The heater is not so much keep the water warmer (since jellyfish prefer cooler water) but the heater will help keep the temperature stable at the higher end of its fluctuation.

If you decide you want to go the heater route keep in mind that you will need to purchase two heaters. One for use in the aquarium and a second one for use in your new water bucket. This is important to keep the water change water the same temperature as the aquarium. Preforming a water change with water that is a different temperature than the aquarium can injure the animals. The heaters can be found here:

    https://www.jellyfishart.com/products/water-heater?_pos=1&_sid=fd28a20f2&_ss=r

The most important part when it comes to temperature is stability! Avoid temperature that fluctuates throughout the day that will unnecessarily stress the jellyfish and can cause inversion or other stress related issues.

Ideal Water Conditions If you are experiencing problems with your jellyfish shrinking or if you are concerned with the quality of the water in your jellyfish tank, we recommend using an aquarium test kit to measure key water quality parameters like pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Your levels should read as follows: Ammonia: under 0.5ppm Nitrite: under 1 ppm (parts per million) Nitrate: under 40 ppm pH: 7.8 – 8.2 It is okay to have pH outside of the above given range as long as it doesn't change faster than 0.1 every few days. These levels can be achieved by keeping your tank clean and well-maintained.

Follow these steps to start a siphon using the vacuum hose

     1. Get a receptacle to collect the draining water, such as a bucket.

     2. Stick one end of the Hose in the tank.

    3. Keep the other end of the Hose below the water level. 4. Use your mouth to suck on the lower end of the Hose like a straw.

    5. Water will quickly start flowing through the Hose. Aim the Hose into the bucket. 6. Keep an eye on the end of the Hose in the Tank. Keep it away from the Jellyfish to avoid having them get too close.

    7. You can move the end of the Hose around the bottom of the Tank to remove debris.

You should check the salinity of your jellyfish tank whenever you do a water change, which should be once a week. Approximate completion time: 1 minute. How to measure salinity with a hydrometer:

    1. Fill the hydrometer with water from your tank.
    2. Knock air bubbles from needle to verify salinity is between 30 and 34 ppt. Add fresh water or salt water as needed.

Note: Only use fresh water that has been distilled or has undergone reverse osmosis (as indicated on label).
Water flow should be strong enough to allow the jellyfish to float around constantly. This tank is designed to simulate an open-water environment, like that of the ocean. There are two plastic fittings that are attached to the airline on your tank. The check valve is a non-adjustable cylinder and is a one way valve to prevent water from running back through the airline if the air pump were to stop working.

The adjustable airline valve has a dial on it that you can move to control the amount of air flowing through the airline. The amount of air flow, in turn, controls the amount of water flow. The airflow valve should be greater than 75% of the way open. If it is too low, the water will not move enough in the tank and the jellyfish will just sink to the bottom. It may take an hour for the effects of any changes to manifest, so be patient when making changes and observe the effects over a long period of time.

    4. Replacements are subject to availability.

    5. Sorry, credit cards cannot be refunded for lost jellyfish.

    6. Arrive Alive Guarantee claim forms take 5-10 business days to process. Once processed a code for replacements will be sent via email and they can be redeemed at the customer's convenience.

    7. Shipping charges for replacement fish are the responsibility of the customer. Jellyfish Art does not pay shipping on replacement fish.

Jellyfish Art takes pride in packaging high quality and healthy jellyfish and shipping them across the nation. However, due to the nature of shipping live animals, there are circumstances outside of Jellyfish Art’s control that could impact the safe arrival of your jellyfish such as carrier delays, weather, package mishandling, and invalid shipping addresses.

We are confident in our livestock and are proud to offer an Arrive Alive Guarantee to qualifying customers. In order to better serve our customers, we ask that an “Arrive Alive Claim Form,” be filled out and submitted. This is to ensure customer satisfaction and help us prevent future claims. Jellyfish Art strives to ship jellyfish in the safest manner possible and this information helps gauge how shipments can be improved.

We love to see our customers succeed. We offer the Arrive Alive program to nurture a positive relationship with our customers and ensure that everyone can become a successful jellyfish keeper. The Arrive Alive Guarantee is built upon a mutual trust between the customer and Jellyfish Art.

To Receive an Arrive Alive Claim Form:

Please send a photograph of your jellyfish (we ask that you take one with the jellyfish still sealed in the bag or immediately after you have noticed damage) to info@jellyfishart.com with your order number, account email, name, and a description of what happened. Please use the email heading “Arrive Alive Claim Form Request”. Arrive Alive Claims are processed in the order in which they have been received. Please allow 5 to 10 business days for your claim to be processed. Once processed you will receive an email with a voucher code that can be used to redeem the replacement jellyfish at your convenience.

Jellyfish Art will replace the cost of the livestock, less shipping, if your purchase does not arrive alive at its destination or if your jellyfish expire within 10 days in a properly setup aquarium.  Some conditions may apply, see below.

The jellyfish must have been acclimated and cared for according to Jellyfish Art’s procedures.  Acclimation is an important time for your jellyfish to safely transition into their new home. Any problems that may arise during the acclimation and introductory period need to be communicated to Jellyfish Art as soon as possible.

We understand that there are a multitude of aquarium products on the market that could be used with your aquarium. This does not mean that all products marketed for aquariums are suitable for use with jellyfish. Jellyfish Art has compiled products that are known to work and benefit the health of jellyfish. Please ask us about a product you intend to use if it is not one of Jellyfish Art’s, or recommended by our team. Injury or loss as a result of unapproved products will void Arrive Alive claims. Please do not experiment with products on your jellyfish without first consulting with a Jellyfish Art representative.

Jellyfish Art reserves the right to request a water sample be sent to us to ensure a healthy environment is established before replacements are sent. After an initial claim is filed the Jellyfish art customer service team will guide you in any steps necessary to ensure the aquarium is safe and ready for replacement animals. Since additional claims cannot be filed on replacement animals we encourage you to ask any questions you may have to ensure aquarium conditions are ready. With any Arrive Alive Claim, the specifics as to why the animals did not survive will vary and specific instructions will be tailored and provided to address each individual scenario.

Any deviations from our recommended procedures will void your Arrive Alive Guarantee.  Such deviations include, but are not limited to:

    • Supplementally feeding your jellyfish with foods other than what is recommended in the manual.  (Example: Rotifers, copepods, etc.)

    • Adding ANY different species within the tank.  (Shrimps, snails, fish, other cnidarians, plants etc.) that isn’t recommended by JFA

    • Using tap water or other unrecommended water conditioners

    • Failure to provide clear, digital photographs of any damage.  We ask that a picture of the jellyfish is taken while they are still sealed in the shipping bag.

    • Placing any foreign objects not a part of the aquarium kit inside the aquarium (i.e. plants, aquarium decorations, unapproved substrate etc.)

    • Failure to communicate struggles or damages within the 48 hours of damage occurring within the 10-day guarantee period.

    • Removal of “dead” jellyfish from tank prior to contacting Jellyfish Art

    • Accidental trauma to the jellyfish (Example: feeding pipette accident, siphon mishap, dropped jellyfish)

    • Extended power outages without a battery backup or generator resulting in the air pump not running

    • Natural disaster related damage

    • Excessive negligence. Failure to keep up with recommended maintenance following procedures (i.e. Not doing water changes properly, inadequate cleaning/waste removal, overfeeding etc.)

    • Using unapproved equipment with your aquarium

    • Modifying your aquarium in any way

    • Introducing your jellyfish to an aquarium with an unestablished nitrifying bacteria population that has not had the required two-weeks to complete the Nitrogen Cycle.

    • Pump outages. (All items must be checked to be in working order prior to jellyfish ordering)

    • Customer input of incorrect address

    • Cleaning fluids used in or around the aquarium

This claim is only valid for the original purchaser or the primary caregiver of the aquarium.  Any accidents caused by actions of friends, family, or children watching or interacting with the jellyfish is not covered.

Understanding the basic principles of aquarium husbandry will help in successful jellyfish keeping. Jellyfish Art’s manuals and online database are great resources for learning more about jellyfish care and aquarium parameters.  This policy has been updated on 12/23/16
